How much does an office fitout cost in Auckland?
Basic fitouts typically range from $800–$1,200 per square metre, mid-range fitouts with custom joinery and upgraded finishes sit around $1,500–$2,500 per square metre, and high-end fitouts with premium materials and technology can run $3,000–$5,000+ per square metre. Your final cost depends on the condition of the space, the scope of work, and compliance requirements.

Do I need building consent for an office fitout?
It depends on the scope of work. Some fitouts qualify for a building consent exemption, while others require full consent, particularly where structural, HVAC, plumbing, or fire safety elements are involved. Pocketspace assesses this for you and manages the consent or exemption process directly.

How long does a commercial office fitout take?
Most fitout projects run from a few weeks for a basic refresh to several months for a full renovation, depending on scope, consent requirements, and whether the space is occupied during works. Consents are relatively quick.

What's the difference between a fitout and a defit?
A fitout is fitting out a space for use as an office. A defit is stripping a tenancy back to base build condition, usually required at the end of a lease as part of a make-good obligation. Pocketspace manages both.

Does Pocketspace manage the whole project, including the build?
Yes. Pocketspace can take a project from initial strategy and design through to build completion, working with a trusted network of contractors and managing the process end to end. If you just want design only - we are more than happy to work with your chosen build partners.

Do you work with businesses outside Auckland?

Yes, some of our clients have regional offices all over New Zealand. We have local contractors that will measure the space for us and we can design remotely, then PM with our local teams.
