TOTARA HAUMARU HOSPITAL

AUCKLAND

LEAD DESIGNER: LAURA HEYNIKE

ARCHITECT BASE BUILD: JASMAX

The Well Foundation contracted Pocketspace Interiors to design the Whanau Rooms in the Tōtara Haumaru Hospital as a seperate project to the rest of the building. A lot of time was spent on the cultural narrative to create the basis of the space and how whanau was to use it. Oval patterning was derived from the Totara tree leaf reaching down to Papatuanuku and up towards Ranginui, the palette cohesive to the land, the tree and the people. Full health regulations and standards were followed to create this wardroom design and space for whanau of critical care patients.
