1. At what stage should I get you involved in my renovation or build?
The earlier, the better. Ideally, engage an interior professional during the concept phase, so we can influence layout, structural changes, joinery, finishes, lighting, and more. Early involvement helps avoid costly changes down the track.
2. What services do you offer?
Services typically include:
Space planning and layout design
Consent documentation
Interior styling - one room or the whole house! We have done full houses full Air BNB invest
Golden Visa Client Interior Design Package
Kitchen design
Interior architectural detailing
Joinery and cabinetry design
Material and finish selection
Lighting and electrical plans
Furniture, fixtures & equipment (FF&E) curation
Lounge styling
Window Treatement (drapes/blinds) specification
Coordination with architects, builders, and consultants
4. How much will it cost?
Fees can vary based on project size and complexity. Our services are often quoted as:
A fixed design fee
A percentage of the total project cost for Project Management
An hourly rate for specific work - some clients just want us for a couple of hours!
We’ll provide a clear fee proposal after discussing your brief and scope.
5. Do you work with builders, or do I need to find one?
We are a design build studio with our own Project Manager, builders and subcontractors. We also offer support during the construction phase to ensure the design is executed correctly.
6. Can you help with council consents?
We can take care of all the documentation that is required to obtain your building consent or council exemption
7. What if I change my mind during the process?
Design is collaborative, and we expect refinements. Major changes during or after documentation may impact timelines and fees. We’ll always discuss these transparently and have an amendments exclusion that would apply if we go beyond the initial time quoted for.
8. Do I need a council consent for a kitchen renovation in Auckland?
No. You will not need a consent for a kitchen renovation in Auckland. However if you are removing a load bearing wall to open up the space this will need an exemption and structural engineer. If you are moving the kitchen from one side to the other side of the home you will not need consent as you are not adding additional plumbing fixtures.
9. Can Pocketspace design a home remotely if i’m buying from overseas?
Yes we offer a remote design service, in fact lots of our clients are based overseas. We will arrange access for the property, design and renovate or supply all the soft furnishings you need so it’s move in ready. Please book in a meeting with us to discuss your project further and the process associated with this service.
8. How do we get started?
We start with an initial consultation. This is in person or virtual if you are located outside of Auckland, to discuss your needs, budget, and vision. From there, we provide a detailed scope, fee proposal, and project roadmap or cost estimate to move to the design phase if we are a good fit!
