The return of the coloured sofa. Are you brave enough?

It’s not time to completely write a eulogy for the drab grey sofa. They do have their place. But, can we take a moment to celebrate the bold and the beautiful, the coloured sofa. I don’t think its about being brave, I think its about being educated and believing that it will work. Coloured sofas aren’t for the faint DIYer though. I believe colour is THE hardest thing to build confidence in as a designer. Its about making sure you don’t create a domino effect in the rest of the space. If you opt for the colour, then you have to commit to the accent in other areas. By this I mean in textiles, wallpapers, artwork. Don’t isolate the sofa like it’s Tom Hanks waiting on a deserted island. Be clever with subtle linear work or patterning is the cushion to be the first anchor. Then you need to commit to at least one other zone - a rug is usually a good choice or an artwork. We want to create our own little art gallery in a what would be a blink and you’ll miss it kind of space. If you ever need some help with this process, especially picking just the right sofa fabric material and colour - Pocketspace Interiors can help you with that life changing decision and hold your hand right through the process.
