Study Nook Interior Design in Auckland: Custom Built-In tips for your home
If your considering a study nook in your home I would love to help you on your quest to start thinking about what you need to consider to make it a space you will actually use not just a dumping ground for things!
Once you have identified the zone we like to think about your wishlist. Who is going to use it, children or adults?
Then we move to what functional storage do you need versus storage thats purely for looks. For example some inbuilt drawers in the middle of the desk can take the strain off a long span desktop and be perfect for drawers with crafts, boardgames or stationary. (all the while hiding ugly cabling in under desk cable management). Where is above the desktop you might have a mixture of closed cupboards and open shelves to lighten the space - especially if it is in a main lounge. Think about how we would style those open shelves so it becomes part of the spaces decor.
It’s about getting the balance right with what else is in the space.
Lastly materiality is important. We could look to use the same benchtop stone, or a melamine that is durable for the home. But it can be an opportunity to bring in subtle colour, woodgrain or detailing on the cabinet fronts particularly if the rest of the space is bland.
